It Makes Sense

The Tigers’ pass defense isn’t very good. You know that. We don’t need to go through this again. I will say, in Gene Chizik’s defense, that Auburn doesn’t concede long pass plays. That doesn’t happen. The reasoning is obvious — Auburn’s defensive backs play off receivers and basically let them catch balls. The good news for Auburn is that someone typically is in position to make a tackle almost immediately after the catch is made. The Tigers often miss tackles, sure, but what defensive coordinator Ted Roof is doing makes more sense to me now. These coaches have little faith in their cover guys to actually … cover guys. Might as well limit the damage you know is coming. I get that.
