Spring Sports

The baseball season ended yesterday at Regions Park as the Tigers lose to Georgia 3 to 2. Needing one win in the SEC tournament to qualify for the postseason, the Tigers can't get it done. What happened to this team this year? Who knows. The final record is 29 & 29 which includes two losses to both Samford and South Alabama and one loss to Jacksonville State. When you can't beat the lower level teams in your own state, you know you're in trouble. This team collapsed down the stretch. Where is Auburn baseball headed going forward?

This year round football recruiting is too much. Auburn has its Big Cat recruiting event this weekend. I suppose it's exciting but it's a bit much for me.

Two players leave the basketball program. What is the future of Auburn roundball? Who knows.

Auburn's Swan Song

This 2011 Auburn baseball team is going quietly into the night. This afternoon I watch as we lose to South Carolina 7 to 3. This team comes into the SEC Tournament needing at least one win to be eligible for the NCAA Tournament. With a record now of 29 & 28 one more loss without a win will mean no winning season and we won't qualify for a bid even if we get one, which is not a sure thing anyway.

The team puts a 3-spot on the board in the firt inning, but alas, that's it. The bats roar at the start and I'm encouraged but then the bats go quiet. The USC pitcher goes the distance and retires the final 13 Auburn batters. We shuffle in one pitcher after another after Jacobs can only go 3 innings. The Gamecocks tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the second and peck away for 4 more runs.

South Carolina is a good team. I'll be surprised if they are not back in the NCAA World Series.

I was hoping that Auburn would put up a fight, they did not. This team is going quickly into the night.

Disappointing Baseball Season

With a chance to win the SEC West for the second year in a row, the Auburn baseball team folded in Rocky Top this weekend losing 2 of 3 to the lowly Vols, the worst team in the league. This team will stagger to the SEC tournament seeded 7th and will play West champion Arkansas at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. Good luck. We'll need it. The biggest problem is that you need a winning record to get an NCAA bid and with a 28 and 26 record and with two losses coming in the league tournament, this team must win at least one game in the SEC tournament. I wouldn't bet on it.

Tigers Sweep Tide

Auburn sweeps both games of the doubleheader. WE win the first one 7 to 5 and the second one 8 to 7. I'd rather beat those people than anything in the world!
