The Weekend

The roundball team looked good in beating LSU. The last Beard-Eaves game is this Wednesday against Mississippi State. I may try and go. It will be interesting to see if Jeff Lebo is retained. I'm betting he will be. The baseball team is 1 & 1 for the weekend with a game to go against Florida Atlantic. So far it seems that this team like last year's has weak pitching. This doesn't bode well. You can't outscore everybody you play in baseball.

The Baseball Team

The team wins 2 of 3 from SEMO. Today was much better than the first two games of the weekend. A new pitcher named Cole Nelson pithced 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Maybe we have at least one pitcher this year.

Beating Arkansas

The Tigers beat Arkansas 92 to 83. This time the team didn't fade in the second half. I get the impression this team is not consistent. Sometimes they play well; sometimes they don't. Whey this is the case I do not know.

The baseball team has split with SEMO so far. The first two games do not bode well for the season. The pitching is giving up way too many runs and this team makes errors. We made 5 errors Friday in losing 13 to 8. We made errors yesterday and had to pull the game out in the 10th inning.

It's going to be another dud year for the baseball team.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods apologized... who cares?

I do not understand the attention Woods has gotten for his infidelity. His marital problems are not important. They have no significance to sports or this country. They matter only to his family, and they should stay personal and private.

He may lose endorsements or not play golf for a while... so what? The world will not be affected, nor should it even take notice.

Sometimes I am dismayed at the things our culture focuses on. Our priorities are maladjusted. The Woods saga shows how sad and pathetic we are.

Sick of Recruiting

I'm sick of reading about football recruiting. Can't we stop it for a while?

Same Song, Different Verse

For the second straight Saturday, the Tigers lose on the road in overtime, this time in Starkville 85 to 75. The team showed great effort to push the game into overtime, but then we scored only 1 point in the extra 5 minutes. The conference record is now 3 & 7. It looks there won't be a strong finish like last year.

Basketball

So the Tigers beat Georgia at home last night as they should have 82 to 63. Rather than fold, the Tigers came on strong in the second half. It could be that Jeff Lebo will do just enough to keep his job. It's hard to see how Auburn can have much to look forward to going into the new arean next year with Dwayne Reed, Tay Waller, and Lucas Hargrove departing.

Good Basketball Game

The Tigers lose at Arkansas in overtime 82 to 79. At least I saw tremendous effort out of Auburn. You can't complain about the effort.

The 2010 Recruiting Class

You can't help but be excited about this year's recruiting class. The has to be one of Auburn's best ever.

It will be interesting in years to come to see how significant this class becomes. The question I have now is how many great inpact players are in this group.

I think first of Cameron Newton. If he is the real deal, he will likely be the most important member of this class.

I wonder next about Trovon Reed. A wide receiver can jump in immediately if he's good enough.

Michael Dyer? Certainly.

On defense, I look at Whitaker, the defensive tackle. I always think first of defensive tackles because stopping the run is rule number one on defense.

Out of that group of linebackers surely one or two will be big.

Time will tell. I look forward to seeing how this group, tremendous sounding on paper, performs in coming seasons.
