The 2017 SEC Championship Game

For the first time since 2013 Auburn plays for the conference championship.  We all know what happened with that team.
After beating Georgia and Alabama over a three week period Auburn won the West.  Georgia won the East.  The East was settled several weeks ago.  The West wasn't settled until we beat Alabama.
The 10 and 2 Tigers vs. the 11 and 1 Bulldogs.  Can Auburn beat Georgia again?
Much has been made of the status of Kerryon Johnson.  No doubt he is the spasrkplug of the offense. KJ hurt his shoulder in the Alabama game.  He is listed as a game-time decision.  Even if he can go he cannot possibly be 100%.  Can we win without a 100% Kerryon Johnson?  Can we win without him at all?
Much has been made of the crowd.  Each team gets 16,300 tickets, but the remaining 41,000 seats are expected to be top-heavy Georgia since their people have know for several week that they would be in this game, and Auburn has known for just the last week.  Some people think Jordan-Hare had a lot to do with beating Alabama and Georgia.  Will the more hostile environment be a factor today?
Auburn is a 2 point favorite.  This surprises me.  I thought it would be a tossup.
I have to think Georgia has the advantage.  I will be surprised if we win.
My guess is that Georgia will start the game with the most energy.  Georgia will take the lead.  If we win it will be in the fourth quarter, coming from behind.
Prior to our game Oklahoma rolls over TCU 41 to 17 to clinch their spot in the playoff.
Let's get it on!

FIRST QUARTER

This is the 26th SEC Championship game.  The game started in Birmingham and migrated to Atlanta.
Kerryon Johnson is on the field as AU receives to start the game.
The Tigers drive smartly down the field mixing the run and pass to the UGA 10.  KJ is out there contributing.  Our offense is alive on this opening drive.
Timeout Auburn with a second and goal from the five.
KJ runs the Wildcat but he loses a yard.
Third and goal from the 6.
A bullet to Nate Craig-Myers in the back of the end zone for the score!!!
That was a great drive mixing the run and pass.

Auburn 7  Georgia 0

Georgia scored first three weeks ago.  Auburn returns the favor.
I've seen the AU offense start out good before and not maintain it.  We've got to keep it going for four quarters.
Georgia collects two first downs and moves into AU territory to the 47.
There is our first sack on Fromm back to their 46.
Third and 13 for Georgia from around midfield.
Fromm is sacked again!!!  The Bulldogs have to punt.

Auburn starts from our 20 after giving up two first downs but then pushing Georgia back on two sacks.
No go this time and the Tigers punt on 4th and 8.

Georgia begins on their 32.  Decent flip of the field on the kick.
Georgia is three and out and on 4th and a yard and a probable fake punt lineup Auburn calls timeout.
Georgia does punt and Roberts fair catches at the 24.
The Tigers move quickly into Bulldog territory thanks to a nifty pass to Stove.
Auburn is at the UGA 38.
Third and three at the 33.
KJ pushes up the middle for the first down.  A tough, tough run by Kerryon Johnson.
First and 10 at the Georgia 30 as the quarter ends.

SECOND QUARTER

The first quarter was a good start.  We have to keep it up for four quarters.
First down to the 18 behind Kam Martin.
On third down Stidham loses the ball and Georgia recovers at their 16.
One of their players punched it out of Stidham's hands.
We were moving the ball but the turnover is big as all turnovers are in a game like this.

Chubb runs to the 32 behind a toss sweep.
Second play no gain.
Georgia is trying to run wide rather than between the tackles.
First down to the Georgia 47.
First down Georgia to the 17.
That's two wide-open receivers.
The Bulldogs are moving quickly on this possession.
Marlon Davidson is on the grass at the 19.
He leaves the field under his own power after the injury timeout.
We need some Red Zone defense.
Pass interference in the end zone.
First down for Georgia at the two.
First play TD pass to the back of the end zone.
Georgia takes advantage of the fumble and drives 84 yards to tie the game.

Auburn 7  Georgia 7

Gotta shake it off and get our offense going again.
The Tigers go three and out and Georgia has all of the momentum.
Auburn was dominating but a simple turnover has changed the game at this point.
The Auburn punt rolls dead at the Georgia 32.
How about a Georgia turnover?!

8:33 to go in the half.
First play Georgia runs to midfield.  They are having success running to the outside.
Running wide and quick passes is their game.
A short pass to Michel to the 14.  Georgia is rolling as we miss tackles.
A short pass wide to Chubb to inside the five.
We can't stop their wide plays.
Georgia is called for offensive pass interference.
The ball moves back to the 18 third and goal.
There's a run to the 10 fourth and goal.
The field goal attempt is good but at least we held them to three.

Auburn 7  Georgia 10

That was a break of a short in that it sure looked like Georgia was headed for the end zone.
The Tigers drive to the Georgia 43.
Third and five from the 38.
Stidham is sacked and we are out of field goal range at the 49.
Bad result on third and 5 from their 38.
Georgia regains possession with 49 seconds and they take a knee.

Auburn was dominating this game and one turnover in the Red Zone completely changed the momentum.
Georgia receives to being the second half.
We need some Kevin Steele defense in the second half.
In a way I'm glad it's only 10 to 7.
I figured we would have to come from behind to win this game.

THIRD QUARTER

Carlton Davis and Tre Williams are out of the game.
Georgia has first possession.
The Bulldogs come out running.  Gotta stop it.
Georgia moves to 4th and a yard to go and they punt.
The punt goes into the end zone.
Our defense stops on their first possession and we start from our 20.

The Tigers hit Ryan Davis on a big time third down 30 yard completion.
Quickly Auburn is on the Georgia 19.
We move to third and 6 from the 15.
Stidham manages to scramble only to the 14.
The FG attempt is blocked.  The drive is for naught.  Oh, no.
The snap is a little high.  Stovall got it down, but the timing was a big disrupted.
That's two trips inside the RZ for no points.
The story of the game so far.
The only good thing since the first quarter is that we trail by only three.
Georgia seizes the momentum with the block.  That's like a turnover.
This is a dangerous moment in the game.
Mistakes in the Red Zone.

Georgia starts on their 28.
There's a 15 yard penalty on Georgia on the first play.
First and 23 after the half distant penalty.
Georgia is three and out not able to overcome the penalty.
Roberts returns to the 31.
The Bulldogs are hit with a 15 yard face guard penalty.

Auburn starts at their 46.
Stidham scrambles to the Georgia 41.
We move to third and 10 with two unfortunate incomplete short passes.
They are getting pressure on Stidham.
Pass incomplete and Auburn has to punt.
Stidham had time there but either our receivers can't get one or Stidham can't pull the trigger.
If this continues Georgia will score again.
Our defense may have to score to win this one.
The punt goes into the end zone.
The way the game is going is in Georgia's favor but we are still down by only three.
Stidham seems uncomfortable and perhaps there is good coverage downfield.

Big Georgia first down completion to the Auburn 49.
It seems inevitable Georgia would eventually move the ball with our offensive missteps.
Chubb runs to the Auburn 24.
Our defense is giving way again as you would expect with our lack of offensive production.
The Bulldogs move to a field goal attempt.
The 35 yarder is good.

Auburn 7  Georgia 13

The difference in the game is that after that first drive Auburn has been in the Red Zone twice without scoring.  In return Georgia has two field goals after their touchdown.
Our offense must come alive.  We need good plays on first down.
From the 22 there is a 9 yard first down completion to Ryan Davis.
There is a long incompletion down the sideline to Slayton.
I don't like that play call because the third and one is not a gimme.
But KJ runs for the first down.
The third quarter ends as Stidham scrambles for 12 yards.
We are down to basics.

FOURTH QUARTER

Auburn starts the final quarter first and 10 at their 47.
First play of the quarter Kerryon Johnson fumbles and Georgia recovers.
The game has changed dramatically.

Georgia takes the ball at the Auburn 39.
First play Chubb runs to the 23.
Auburn is called for a late hit out of bounds as the Georgia player never went down.  Bad call. Oh, well.
Georgia is inside our 10.
Pass to the end zone for the score from the 7.
Well, we are in trouble now.
Two turnovers with Georgia scoring 15 points as the 2 pointer is good.

Auburn 7  Georgia 21.

We have given this game away with two turnovers and offensive ineffectiveness.
We are losing this game more than Georgia is winning it.
Turnovers by Auburn has determined the outcome.
13:06 to go but something has to change very quickly.
Georgia has scored 21 straight points.

From the 25 what can our offense do?
Auburn is three and out.  Auburn is punting as they are getting to Stidham as he cannot hit an open receiver.  Pretty much game, set, match.
Georgia is penalized 15 yards but the penalty occurred after the kick.
Our offense didn't come thru in this game.  Two turnovers.  Two visits inside the Red Zone with no points.  Lack of production on first down.  Too many third downs in obvious passing situations.  Stidham has a bad game seemingly not comfortable in the pocket.

Georgia has the ball back content to run the clock.
This is the end of a remarkable run at the end of the season that falls one game short.
Georgia gets a 67 yard run from scrimmage to the end zone.

Auburn 7  Georgia 28

A complete reversal from three weeks ago.
We beat ourselves but at the same time Georgia is clearly the better team tonight.

Our offense goes three and out.
Georgia keeps the ball down to the 2:07 mark.
Georgia keeps trying to score.  I have no problem with that.
Our last possession is futile.

FINAL SCORE

Auburn 7  Georgia 28

After Alabama

Feeling chippy this morning for some reason.  Maybe I can keep it up.

The 2017 Alabama Game

It's here, the game expected to be the biggest since 2013.  Alabama is 11 and 0; Auburn is 9 and 2.  The winner plays in Atlanta with a chance to be in the final four.  Alabama is a 4 point favorite which is about what it was in 2013.  My biggest question going in: can our offense be consistent enough to help the defense?  That means being able to run the football and pass well enough to be balanced.

FIRST QUARTER

After the teams swap possessions the Tigers drive 94 yards to take lead.
On third and two from the three KJ hits  Nate Craig-Myers on a TimTebow pop pass for the score.
Great play.  Great play call.

Auburn 7  Alabama 0

Alabama gets the benefit of an interference call and pushes on to the Auburn 43.
A chop block backs them up.
Hurts fumbles and Tre Williams recovers!!!

Auburn on the Alabama 44 first and 10.
First down to the 19.
First down to the 6.
Kerryon Johnson to the four.
We move to the third and goal from the four.
Stidham drops the snap and Alabama recovers on the 9.  Oh,my.
The quarter ends on a downer.
Stidham drops the snap and can't  pick it up.  Looks like he tried to pick it up rather than fall on it.
Bad, bad, bad in a game like this.
We miss a golden opportunity to go up early by two scores.
Maybe Stidham can redeem himself later.

SECOND QUARTER

The second period starts with Alabama first and 10 on their nine yard line.
This will be a four quarter game.
The Tide goes three and out .  Yes!
Alabama gets a big bounce on the punt and we start on our 22.
Roberts should have fielded that punt.
Their punter has been their biggest asset so far.

Auburn goes three and out.
Alabama had a good rush on Stidham that time.
We are hurt by Roberts not fielding that punt.
Alabama takes the ball on their 40 with the clock just under 12 minutes.

Alabama to the AU 48.
Hurts is a good runner.
He is most of their offense carrying the ball on keepers.
The possession goes to 4th and 1.
Hurts runs for the first down.  He is their offense.
Alabama on the Auburn 36.
First down TD pass.  Our defender got turned around and their receiver catches the ball in the end zone.  It was almost a hail Mary and our defender lost the ball.
8:31 to go and we are tied.

Auburn 7  Alabama 7

We've had the Stidham fumble inside their 5 and an offensive play by Alabama and we are tied.
A bad go by Dinson in the end zone on that TD pass.
Auburn starts on the 23.
KJ for only one.
First down pass to Davis to the 34.
First down run by KJ.
Gain of 7 by KJ.
First down run to the Alabama 45.
But there is a 4 yard loss by Malik Willis on a keeper.
AU moves to third and 12 just across midfield.
Auburn has to punt on 4th and 9.  The Willis play put us behind the chains.
The punt is downed at the Alabama two!  A good punt for once.
The Tide goes three and out and is punting from their seven.
Roberts fair catches at the UA 49.

KJ for four yards.
On a pass downfield Slayton is pushed down but there is no interference call.
Big time pass completion to the UA 22.
We move to third and eight from the 20.
Timeout with 48 seconds left.
A completion but only to the 16.
Timeout UA with five seconds left as Auburn lines up for the field goal attempt.
The 34 harder is good as the half ends.  Auburn leads at the half.

Auburn 10  Alabama 7

THIRD QUARTER

Alabama receives and drives right down the field unimpeded by our defense all on the ground except for one short swing pass.
That was ugly.  What happened to our run defense on that series?  They ran thru gaping holes.  Goodness!  That was power running 79 yards right down the field.

Auburn 10  Alabama 14

AU starts around their 21 or 22.
This is a big point in the game.
If they stop this possession we could be in trouble.
We move to third and three.
There is a 21 yard completion to Hastings.
There is an incompletion to Slayton and once again no interference call.
We get a five yard substitution penalty though.
First down to the UA 45.
There is a 15 yard PF on Alabama.
The ball moves to the UA 29.
We move to third and 8 at the Alabama 27.
Alabama is getting pressure on our QB.
We move to a field goal attempt.
The kick is good!  At least we answered with three.

Alabama is three and out after a great open field tackle by Stephen Roberts.
Auburn starts on their 31,
We move to third and five.
There is a completion to Ryan Davis to the UA 41.
We move to third and seven.  They are getting too much pressure on Stidham.
Stidham scrambles for the first down to the UA 27.
Stidham scrambles to the Tide 12 on a quarterback draw.
KJ is close to the 10.  We keep running Johnson between the tackles without much success.
Stove sweeps to the three and a third and one.
KJ runs to the one and a first down.
KJ up the gut for the score!
THAT was a statement drive.  Auburn is in this game to the end.
KJ is one tough running back.  He may have been nicked up on that last drive because he will lower his head and push.  That was a big drive.
The Tigers have scored ten straight points after Alabama's opening touchdown.

Auburn 20  Alabama 14

On the kickoff we give up another long return.
Alabama sets up at our 39. Yikes!
Alabama backs up five on procedure.
Dad gum that kickoff return burns me.
Davis is called on interference when they did NOT call similar plays on them.
There's another unfortunate event.  There was interference on Auburn but they did not call the same play on Alabama.
Alabama moves to third and 4 from our 13.
There is a deflected pass in the end zone ruled caught by Alabama and ruled a TD but the point of the ball was on the ground.  The play is reviewed and correctly ruled an incomplete pass.  Their QB threw it up for grabs.  Alabama was lucky on that play.
The FG attempt is no good as the holder cannot handle a good snap!
AU starts at the 26.

The quarter ends as Auburn picks up a first down at the 36 on another completion to Ryan Davis.
Can Auburn win this game over the last 15 minutes?

FOURTH QUARTER

This will be a 4 quarter game, but we knew that going in.
The Tigers drive impressibly for the touchdown.
I'm so nervous I can list every play.
Stidham scrambles for the score around left end.
The Tigers go for two on the point after.
The try is no good. The play didn't work.  Auburn still leads by 12.  Still a worthwhile effort.

Auburn 26  Alabama 14

Still early in the fourth quarter.  Plenty of time left.
Let's not give a big KO return please.
The kickoff goes out of the end zone thank goodness.
12:49 left.
From the 25 Alabama moves across the Auburn 40.
Alabama moves to third and 8.
Hurts runs for the first down to the AU 39.
Their QB is hard to contain.
UA is at the Auburn 33 on the next play.
We move to third and five.
There is a bad snap and a loss.
Here comes a big fourth down.
THERE IS ANOTHER BAD SNAP BACK AT THE ALABAMA 41 AS HURTS CAN DO NOTHING BUT FALL ON THE BALL!
THE CROWD AND THE PRESSURE GETS TO THE TIDE!
I LOVE IT!!!
The play is reviewed because there was an illegal snap as Auburn was getting players off the field.
Alabama could get the ball back with a 5 yard penalty for an illegal snap.
Alabama players were moving as the snap was made and Auburn was running players off the field.
They penalize Auburn even though Alabama had players moving.
Alabama gets another chance with a 4th and 4.
Alabama gets away with a snap with players moving.
AUBURN HAD 12 PLAYERS ON THE FIELD BUT THEY SNAP THE BALL WITH PLAYERS MOVING.

We move quickly to a third and 4.
Stove is topped just barely for a yard gain.
Auburn is punting.
Alabama is offsides on the punt.
First down Auburn!
Alabama is making mistakes all over the field.
On the first down KJ goes down.  He is hurt.  He planted and went back left.
Timeout with 6:21 to go Auburn facing second and long.
KJ will go out not likely to return.  No more KJ between the tackles.  We still need to run the ball.
KJ does walk off the field under his own power however gingerly.
Second and 15.
Kam Martin runs to midfield and is slow getting up.
Now they are having to look at Kam Martin as he stays down.   Goodness!  Our running backs are dropping as we try to win this game.
We move to third down.  A first down would be awesome.
Auburn is punting from midfield with 5:40 remaining.  Stidham almost made the first down but there was a shoestring tackle to keep him short.  That might have been the play of the game so far.
It's going to be up to the Auburn defense the rest of the way.
Alabama fair catches the punt at their 16.

Hurts runs for 9 out of bounds.
First down at the 5:12 mark.
To the AU 31.
4:57 to go.

Saban has never beat an Auburn team with at least 9 wins.

After Monroe

The stage is set.  Auburn is where it wants to be.  Beat Alabama and win the SEC West.  Beat Georgia in Atlanta and play for the National Championship.  Alabama is a 3.5/4 point favorite at Jordan-Hare.  We have a good QB for the first time since 2013.  We have a good defense.  Can we stop their run?  Can we run the ball against their defense?  Can Stidham pass well enough to get some offensive consistency?  We shall find out on Saturday.

2017 The Louisiana Monroe Game

Can the Tigers keep up their momentum against a 4 and 5 Monroe team that is supposed to have a pretty good passing offense?  ULM is averaging 37 points a game but giving up 38 a game.  They have an athletic QB and average passing 280 yards passing a game.  Can we improve our special teams play?  Avoid injuries?  The game is a 11 a.m. kickoff on ESPN2.

FIRST QUARTER

Bad toss by Stidham.
3:37 to go in the quarter.
The War Hawks go three and out.  Better defense there.
Stephen Roberts fair catches at the AU 35.

Time for the offense to get going again.
First down to the AU 46.
Auburn moves to 4th down across midfield as the quarter ends.

SECOND QUARTER

After the impressive opening drive to open the game the first quarter turned into a sluggish game.
Our running between the tackles isn't there yet.  Looks like the passing game will have open up the run in this game.  The Tigers punt to open the quarter.  ULM starts at their 20.

ULM is punting from their 30.
Robert fair catches at the AU 28.

On third down we sack their QB back inside their 40.
On 4th and 20 Roberts can't hold on to the ball on the punt and it bounds OOB at the 15.

The Tigers are three and out.  Our offense is not there so after that opening drive.
Conservative play calling running between the tackles or sweeps.

That was a 96 yard drive.

1:27 to go.  ULM starts on their 25.
Auburn has all 3 timeouts left.
Alas, we can't stop them to force a punt.
4th down at the ULM 45.  WE almost block the punt but not quite.
The half ends.
ULM gets the ball coming out.  Our offense hopefully came to life on the last offensive possession.

THIRD QUARTER

ULM receives and advances to the AU 48 before punting.
The War Hawks have won the punting battle as AU sets up at their five yard line.

The Tigers drive 95 yards for the touchdown entirely on the ground except for one short pass.
Kam Martin from the one for the score.
KJ had some impressive physical runs.  KM came in to spell with one long run and plunging in from the one.
THERE was the running game finally.  Impressive physical drive.
That's two straight impressive drives going back to the first half---drives of 96 and 95 yards.

Auburn 21  ULM 7

Three and out for ULM
Once again we start deep in our territory.  Punting has helped keep the War Hawks in the game.
The Tigers move to their 35 and punt to the ULM 20.  Better punt at least.

Auburn intercepts at the ULM 43.
After a 2 yard gain Stidham hits Kam Martin on the wheel route for a 41 yd. pass!  Totally wide open.
I don't understand why we don't use Kam Martin.  He has after burners when he gets a step.

Auburn 28  ULM 7

Auburn recovers a ULM fumble after a completed first down pass.
Nick Ruffin recovers.  The play is reviewed which always make me nervous even though it looked clearly like a fumble.  The call on the field is confirmed.

FOURTH QUARTER

KJ keeps on the wildcat and runs for the first down to the War Hawk 34.
First down to the 23.

ULM recovers at the 6.

On third and long from their 2 we get called for interference on Broussard.
9:51 to go.
First down ULM at their 17.
First down ULM to their 31.
Nick Ruffin intercepts and runs it back 45 yards into the end zone, zig-zagging to pay dirt.
Pressure on their QB paid off big time.

Auburn 35  ULM 7

ULM gets a 70 yard TD pass.  It was a short completion but our defenders couldn't catch up with him.

Auburn 35  ULM 14

5:41 to go. Our announcers say that Kevin Steele is pounding the table in the booth next to them, not happy with that play.  Unfortunate play with subs on the field, but no matter.
Auburn starts on the 26.
Maliki Willis is in the game.
Second play Malik Willis runs 62 yards after an amazing fake to Malik Miller.
From the 10 Miller runs to the four.
Miller to the one.
Malik Miller cracks the end zone.  Tough stuff.  Why hasn't he had more carries this year?
Malik Willis is a dynamic football player.  He is going to be SOMETHING to watch in the coming years.
5 plays 74 yards on that brief drive.

Auburn 42  ULM 14

ULM hits midfield but runs out of downs and AU recovers the ball with 1:07 remaining.
The Tigers take a knee and the game is over.

The first half was sloppy after we scored on our first possession, but we took control in the second half.  The fumble inside the 5 was unfortunate as was giving up the late touchdown but that's okay. The Tigers take care of business.

FINALSCORE
42 TO 14

After Georgia

The turnaround between the disappointing loss at LSU and today is remarkable.  We had sunk so low after LSU but now this team has everything in front of it.  The task is daunting to reach the national playoffs but it can be done.  Auburn can be the first two loss team to play for the national championship since LSU in 2007.  The 2 losses don't matter since we would have to beat Georgia, Alabama, and win the SEC championship anyway.  This team has improved dramatically but it can get better still.  The 2017 Auburn Tigers are peaking at the right time.

2017 The Georgia Game

It's Georgia time again.  The game is the feature CBS game kicking off at 2:30 at Jordan-Hare.  The Dawgs are a 2.5 point favorite.  Georgia comes in at 9 and 0 under Kirby Smart; the Tigers are 7 and 2.  Auburn must win to continue a magical season.  I hope it's a doozy.

FIRST QUARTER

The game starts badly.
Georgia drives 70 yards for a touchdown going right thru our defense.
More passing than running.  Not good at all.

Auburn 0  Georgia 7

The Tigers drive to the Georgia 37 but the drive stops there.
Daniel Carlson hits a 54 yard field goal.  At least we scored in response to their opening touchdown.

Auburn 3  Georgia 7

Will our defense be there on Georgia's second possession?
From their 22 the Bulldogs quickly cross the 30 for a first down.
From the 35 we get a huge sack from Andrew Williams and Georgia punts on 4th and 18.
Roberts fair catches just inside the AU 40.
Good stand by the defense on that possession.  Our defense was there.

Our offense needs to continue to move the football to keep the pressure off of our defense.
The Tigers move smartly to a first down at the Bulldog 15.
But then we face third and 10 from there as the quarter winds down.
False start and now it's third and 15.
We need touchdowns in the red zone to win this game.
We have to settle on another field goal attempt.
On that last series Georgia got pressure on Stidham.
The field goal is good.

Auburn 6  Georgia 7

Okay, but field goals are not going to win this game.
Gotta get 6 from inside the red zone.
UGA gets a good runback to their 47 as Carlson for the second time fails to get a touchback.
The quarter ends with Georgia facing third and three on this possession.

SECOND QUARTER

Roberts knocks down the third and 3 pass and Georgia punts to the Auburn 9.
The Tigers drive smartly to a first down at the Georgia 13 meshing the run and pass.  KJ looks good.
Alas, we move to a third and 10 from there and a timeout.
These red zone difficulties have to stop if we are going to win this game.
No third down conversion and once again it's field goal time.
The 30 yarder is good.

Auburn 9  Georgia 7

The Tigers take the lead but it's bittersweet.

From their 27 Georgia goes three and out again.
We get an 11 yard sack on third down.

On their next possession we stop them on third and one and Georgia punts.
Abetted by an interference call on the receiving of the punt Auburn starts at their 30.
We move to 4th and a punt but Georgia ruffs our kicker.
That's 15 yards and a first down Auburn.
The Tigers move to first down at the UGA 42.  Let's go!

Auburn assumes possession on our 10 with the clock running down in the half.
Georgia calls timeout with 43 seconds left as Auburn faces third and 7 from our 13.
Auburn faces 4th down with 36 seconds left.
We need a good punt and good punt coverage.
Alas it's a good punt but the coverage is terrible and Georgia is at our 26.
Georgia shows poor clock management as they run on first down and get off only one play before the FG attempt of 42 yards.
The kick is NO GOOD!
Auburn will take a 16 to 7 lead to the locker room.
Can we keep it going in the second half?
Is Georgia rattled???

THIRD QUARTER

The Tigers receive and drive to a 3td and 3 in Georgia territory and a first down completion but the refs take it away on a review.  We clearly get robbed.
But Georgia muffs the punt and Auburn has the ball on the Bulldog 23.
The Tigers move methodically to the end zone as Stidham runs it in from the 7.
Yes!!!

Auburn 23  Georgia 7

We can't let up.
The kickoff is stopped at the 25.
We can't let up.
Georgia is not number one for nothing.
Still early in the third quarter.
We hold them on third down but get called correctly for offsides.
Georgia is on their 38.
A 10 yard sack!  Their QB is separated from the ball but Georgia falls on it.
Georgia moves to 4th and 17.
False start for Georgia.  I think Georgia is shook.
Ryan Davis runs the punt back to midfield!  AU did some kind of trickery as Stephen Roberts pretended to catch the punt but Davis fielded the ball.
There is a dead ball penalty on Georgia.
Auburn has the ball on the Bulldog 35.
From the 33 on second down Stidham hits Ryan Davis on a screen pass and Davis winds his way to the end zone.  Georgia blitzed and Stidham picked it up.  Yes, yes, yes!
Auburn is dominating Georgia.

Auburn 30  Georgia 7

We are midway thru the third quarter.
We can't let up.  We can't let up.
Georgia starts at their 25 even without the touchback.
On third down Georgia gets a completed pass to our 32.  Bad defense.
The Dogs move to third and 9.
The possession moves to 4th and 9 from the 30.
The FG attempt is good.

Auburn 30  Georgia 10

We can't let up.  Don't let Georgia back into the game.
We move to third and 5 from the 30.
False start so third and 10 from the 25.
Stidham loses 2 and Auburn has to punt.
A score by Georgia here and they are back into the game.

The punt only goes to their 45.
2:58 to go in the third.
Our defense needs to stand up.
Chubb runs for three.
Pass incomplete.
Pass incomplete.
Georgia is three and out.

The punt goes out of bounds at the three.  Backed up, we need to be careful.

First down Kerryon to the 17 as the third quarter clock winds down.
Kerryon to the 21 for a gain of 4.
There is a short pass inches short of the first down as the third quarter ends.

FOURTH QUARTER

The Tigers pick up the first down and down the field we go running between the tackles.
Looks like we're moving for a 97 yard TD drive when Stidham bobbles a snap on third and one and we have to settle for a 37 yard Daniel Carlson field goal.  Okay.

Auburn 33  Georgia 10

We can't let up.
10:06 to go.  That last possession consumed almost 7 minutes.
Georgia fair catches the kickoff at their 21.  That worked out well.

What a game!!!
Georgia gets the ball back trailing by 30 with 6:13 left.
Georgia moves the ball and on a close 4th down they are given the first down on a completion and a favorable spot.  Coach Malzahn calls for a review.  Auburn is correctly playing this game down to the end as if it's close.  3:38 to go.  The Auburn players are dancing on the sidelines.  The field ruling stands up.  Okay, first down Georgia.
From the 24 an incompletion.
Second and 10.
A run and now third and 5.
4th and 1.
A measurement.
First down by an inch.
Auburn is still playing this game down to the end.
First down pass to the end zone from the 14.

2:19 to go.
Georgia kicks it thru end zone.  Good.  No onside kick.
Malik Willis finishes the game.

Georgia scored on its first possession.  Georgia scored on its last possession.
Auburn completely DOMINATED in-between.

After TAMU

After beating the Aggies 42 to 27 we are down to basics.  Once more in early November as the brown and orange leaves begin to cover the roads it's Georgia time again.  The Bulldogs are unbeaten and  ranked #1 in the playoff rankings.  Auburn is 7 and 2.  I hope it's another classic Auburn-Georgia game with a Tiger victory.  Georgia appears to be a 1 or 2 point favorite.  Jordan-Hare should be electric.  This is what it's all about.

How 30 for 30's 'Nature Boy' became a reality

By Rory Karpf
ESPN
3 November 2017

I grew up a huge wrestling fan during the 1980s. I lived right outside Philadelphia. I used to beg my dad to take me to see the NWA. The WWF used to come to The Spectrum in Philadelphia, which wasn't exactly a lap of luxury, but the Civic Center, where NWA ran shows, made The Spectrum look like a palace.

My dad took me one time to see Ric Flair -- May 4, 1986. He was wrestling Ricky Morton for the NWA world heavyweight championship. I was a little kid, 8 years old. I kind of pushed and shoved my way down to the aisle as Flair was walking down to ring. I remember I held my four fingers up and gave him a loud, "Woooo!" He actually turned right at me and stared. I'll never forget what he said.

"Don't 'Woooo' at me you little brat."

I thought, "Wow. What a jerk." I always remembered, though, what a loyalty he had to his character. I always found him to be a very fascinating figure in this world of professional wrestling -- a world where you're never sure what's real and what's not, and that was especially true in the 1980s. Ric Flair was real. As a filmmaker, I found that incredibly interesting.

So fast-forward about 30-odd years, and I'm making a 30 for 30 film titled "I Hate Christian Laettner." I'm looking for a pop culture figure to interview to talk about what makes a good villain, and to me, the greatest villain of all time is the Nature Boy.

Flair is a huge sports fan too, so we set up an interview, and the one clip of him that appeared in the film was at the very beginning -- and it created a big buzz on social media. Lots of people were into it, lots of tweets like, "Wow, Ric Flair's in this movie. Nature Boy. Woooo!"

John Dahl of ESPN Films noticed it. For the longest time I had been pitching them wrestling films and having it kind of fall on deaf ears. But John said, "You know, I really am intrigued by the reaction Ric Flair had gotten. He seems very relevant today. What do you think about doing a film on Ric?"

I practically jumped out the window, I was so excited. I said, "Definitely."

I reached out to Ric's management at the time, in the spring and summer of 2015, and they were very interested. That kind of got the ball rolling. We had a couple of hoops to jump through -- mainly that ESPN wanted some assurances that WWE would cooperate with footage -- and luckily, WWE was incredibly cooperative from the beginning.

Our first interview for the film was with Ric in October 2015. We sat down in Atlanta for roughly five hours and interviewed him inside of a wrestling ring. He was incredibly forthcoming, and very excited that he was a part of a 30 for 30. The fact that this was going to be the first 30 for 30 feature-length film on a wrestler, and it was on Ric, he understood the magnitude.

So that was kind of our jumping-off point, but there were so many places to go from there. You have to understand, Ric Flair has had a career that has lasted about 40 years, so there's a very wide net of people you can talk to. Being a wrestling fan, I had a list of specific people, some more famous than others with whom I wanted to speak.

I started just reaching out to people -- some cold calling, and others where Ric would pass on their contact info for me. For instance, The Undertaker, that was a huge get for us. He's not someone who does very many interviews, let alone where he breaks character. Ric shared his contact information with me over the iPhone and it came through as Undertaker. So, I was very nervous calling, because I didn't even know how to address him; certain wrestlers find it disrespectful if you call them by their given name and you don't know them.

So I called him up, half expecting him to answer like, "For whom the bell tolls," or something really intimidating. But he just said, "Hello?" like anyone else. He was very friendly. I said, "Oh, hey Mr. Taker. This is Rory, the filmmaker." Luckily Ric had already spoken to him, and he's obviously well-revered by his peers, so people wanted to talk to us.

It was just a yearlong process of reaching out to some of the biggest names in wrestling, including Shawn Michaels, Sting, Ricky Steamboat and Triple H, just gathering a lot of content. There were some lesser-known names who were big in the NWA during the 1980s, such as Nikita Koloff, George South and Baby Doll, all of whom added a lot of great context.

When it was all said and done, we did, I believe, 46 interviews. About 23 or 24, about half, made it into the film. We were able to secure, for the very first time on camera, Ric's first wife Leslie. She was one of the first people to know Ric before he was the Nature Boy. He was simply Richard Fliehr to her. Ric's son David helped set that up.

We did some other non-interview shoots with Ric, too. We filmed him and his daughter, Ashley, at an autograph signing. We filmed Ric in his home in Atlanta, and then we shot some b-roll of Ric in one of his robes coming out to the ring; a lot of the shots that you see in the open and close come from that last shoot. We also spent some time going through pictures and old home movies with him. So, it was kind of like I was in and out of his life for about two years.

The very first thing we did for the film was with Ric Flair, and the very last interview done for the film, conducted in February or maybe March 2017, was also with Ric Flair. We did all that, but along the way Ric was getting a little impatient, wondering when the movie was going to come out. I told him, "Please be patient. This is a marathon, not a sprint."

Then it came down to cutting everything together, and it took a lot of effort to mold everything into the finished product everyone will see. The film actually went through three totally different versions. The very first version of the film I edited myself, and when I turned it in, the folks at ESPN -- mainly John Dahl -- were not thrilled with it. He felt that I didn't really take many risks and it was kind of a "by-the-book" presentation. That was disheartening.

We went back and did a second cut that was very centralized on the 1980s, where the '80s as a decade were more the main character than Ric Flair. John really disliked that cut. But then I edited a new open that he did really like, and that shaped the way the film ultimately turned out. It was a very personal open -- just Ric in his own words.

John said, "You know, I really like this idea of the film being personal, where we're really hearing more of Ric." He also said, "I really like your conversation with Ric from the first interview. You guys kind of have an interesting back and forth. ... I think you should do another interview with him."

I was planning on doing a final interview anyway, but John really pushed for something different. "On this one, I think you definitely should have an angle where you film yourself as well." It wasn't a suggestion based out of wanting to put myself in front of a camera or in the film. It was more so that some of Ric's reactions to the questions were very interesting, and you kind of needed to hear the question that his answer had context.

The more conversational feel that John pushed for wound up being great for the film. I hired a good friend of mine, Charlie Askew, as the editor, and working together with him, he kind of cultivated what you see right now, which is the third version of the film in its entirety.

Another crucial element of the film came together by necessity. During the interviews, there were some incredible stories told, and we had to decide the best way to visualize the stories for the viewer. We could've used pictures, like Ken Burns' style of storytelling, but there really weren't pictures that illustrated some of the stories we were telling. Another technique we considered were recreations with actors, but I couldn't really envision using an actor to play Ric Flair.

Then a filmmaking mentor of mine, Jim Jorden, suggested using animation. I really liked how animation was used in the 30 for 30 film "Benji". And the world of wrestling during the 1980s was a bit cartoonish too, so animation seemed as if it could be the perfect solution. I reached out to various companies and decided to go with Six-Point Harness Animation out of Los Angeles. The guys over there are huge wrestling fans, and I feel they really made many of the stories told in the film come to life. As a filmmaker, I don't have a distinct style. I'm willing to use whatever technique tells the best story possible, and I'm really happy with how those animations ultimately turned out in the film.

It was all lining up, and then Ric had his health scare. We discussed how to handle the film as the situation evolved, and talked quite a bit about how it might affect how the story was told. There was a time when it looked as if Ric wasn't going to make it, and that definitely would have impacted the ending of the film and how we presented it. We wanted the film to be evergreen, so that it could last forever. But fortunately he recovered. The future was uncertain, but he was stable.

We thought about it, and we decided to address the health situation in a director's statement, which will run during a commercial break. Once it looked as if he was going to make a full recovery, we decided to not actually put it in the body of the film. We like where the film ends right now, with Ric living vicariously through his daughter and her wrestling career. That's not changing. That has already happened, and that's how he views himself.

My goal from the beginning was to make a film that appealed to wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans alike. Something that doesn't talk down to wrestling fans, but at the same time, if you don't like wrestling or know much about it, you can still enjoy the film. I was hopeful that it would get a good reaction, and with the New York and Atlanta premieres, and the other people who've seen it, so far it has been good. I wasn't sure how Ric was going to react to it, because there are some tough things to hear for him in the film -- especially from his children.

We first screened the film with him, before he got sick, at San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July. Talk about an interesting experience. We're sitting in his hotel room while people are saying in the film that he has a drinking problem, and we're watching the film while he's drinking.

But he really liked it. Some parts were upsetting to him, but to his credit, he didn't want to change anything or gloss over anything. So, that was fulfilling.

It's important to note that this is not a chronology of Ric Flair's greatest matches or career. That already exists in the WWE's archives. This is really a film that tries to encapsulate who Ric Flair was, and is, and at the same time, it's about wrestling and the appeal of what he did within that business.

Most of what I've seen on wrestling has either been incredibly tragic, where they just look at the underbelly of the industry, or it's just not breaking any new ground. Hopefully our film is something that appeals to a wide audience, and does break new ground -- stands the test of time as something that, if you want to understand what wrestling was in the 1980s, the appeal of it, the appeal of Ric Flair and why he relevant today, you can look at this film.

2017 The TAMU Game

This is a big game.  They're all big now.  This is November and it's down to basics.  Auburn has a daunting task ahead, and it begins today.  The Tigers are favored in College Station.  The visiting team has a habit of winning this game.  Let us hope this trend continues today.

FIRST QUARTER

Auburn wins the toss and defers.  TAMU drives to  39 yard FG.  The defense played well except for giving up one long run of about 35 yards over their left side.  There is was nobody in our second line of defense on that play.

Auburn 0  TAMU 3

The Tigers drive to a 4th and a half yard.  The fake on the 39 yard attempt goes for the first down BUT Golson is called for holding.  The 49 yard attempt is blocked and that's a tough break on the road.  The game is not starting well on the road.  The offense showed it can move the ball.  Why did't we go for it on 4th and less than a yard instead of the fake FG attempt?  A big special teams breakdown here.
After the blocked FG the Aggies go three and out quickly.  There was a sack on first down.
Auburn fair catches the punt on the Tiger 24.
Stidham is  sacked for a 4 yard loss on first down.  TheAggies are supposed to be a good sack team.
Auburn is quickly three and out as the Tigers end up in 4th and 14.
This team cannot afford to get behind the chains on third and long.
The punt rolls out of bounds at the Aggie 30.
TAMU is quickly three and again.  That's three three and outs in a row by both teams.
Auburn fair catches at the 16.
On a 12 yard gain on first down Auburn is called for holding.
Stidham is sacked on second down and the Tigers are punting from the 18.
Penalties have been our nemesis so far.
The Aggies fair catch at their 35.
The quarter ends with TAMU facing third and 6.

SECOND QUARTER

So far all I can say is that this will be a close game.
Our offense has got to get it going mixing the run and pass.
No one-dimensional.
TAMU is getting too much pressure on Stidham.  Two penalties have hurt the most.
TAMU is three and out again.  Good job by the defense if only our offense can help the defense.
AU fair catches on their 25.
Finally the offense moves the football on the ground smartly.
First down to the Aggie 19.  Kim Martin has some good runs.  One breakaway by KJ.
After a two yard gain time out Auburn with 2nd and 8.
First down pass to Hastings to the four.
KJ to the three.
TD pass to KJ as Stidham rolls right and hits Johnson in the flat.
That's the way to do it!  Mostly on the ground but still mixing it up.

Auburn 7  TAMU 3

TAMU is three and out for the their straight time.
AU fair catches on the 14 after a booming punt.
After one first down Auburn is punting.
The punt goes into the end zone on a 70 yard punt.
7:12 to go.
TAMU changes quarterbacks and picks up a first down.
The Aggies move thru the air to the Auburn 39.
All of a sudden with a new QB the Aggies are moving the ball.
First down to the 29.
There is huge run to the Auburn two.
Big difference with the new redshirt QB.
Yikes.  TAMU is poised to take the lead.
Firt and goal for the Aggies at the Auburn two.
Touchdown TAMU as their runner bounces off an attempted tackle in the backfield.

Auburn 7  TAMU 10

The thriller is on.  The Aggies made the right call in changing quarterbacks.  Can Auburn respond?
4:01 to go.
The Tigers go three and out from the 25 on three straight incompletions.
After a poor punt TAMU starts at midfield,
First play on a middle screen the Aggies are immediately inside our ten.
Oh, my.  TAMU has all the momentum.  Gut check time.
Third and goal from the seven.
Fourth and goal from the seven.
Fortunately our defense stiffens and only gives up the three.

Auburn 7  TAMU 13

From the 25 after two first downs Stidham hits Slayton on a 53 yard TD pass.
That's how you do it!
The strike comes on a 2nd and one.  You can do wonders on a second and one.

Auburn 14  TAMU 13

TAMU has 90 seconds to work with from their 20 with three timeouts.
The Aggies go three and out and line up to punt with 29 seconds to go.
THE KICK IS BLOCKED!  THE KICK IS BLOCKED!  THE KICK IS BLOCKED!
A bevy of white shirts surround the ball in the end zone and Malick Miller recovers in the end zone for the 6.  Wow!  A special teams touchdown is a big deal.

Auburn 21  TAMU 13

What a way to end the first half!
The Tigers get the ball coming out in the second half.

THIRD QUARTER

Auburn starts at the 25.  Get to what looks like an inch or two short of the 35 on third down, but after a measurement the officials signal first down.  The play is reviewed.  Never seen this before.  It does look like the chains were not originally lined just right.  The ruling on the field is overturned.  We were short of the 35 but the on the field ruling was first down because the chains said first down.
TAMU starts on their 19.
TAMU is quickly three and out.
Roberts returns the punt to the AU 36.
Second Auburn possession of the half coming up.
First play short pass to Stove down to the TAMU 35.
Stidham keeps to the 11 on the next play.
KJ loses two back to the 13.
Stove to the 5 off a short pass.
Third and 4 from the 5.
TD PASS TO THE RYAN DAVIS WITH STIDHAM ROLLING RIGHT.  GREAT TOUCH PASS.
That's the way to do it!!!

Auburn 28  TAMU 13

TAMU is again three and out.  4th and 4 from their 29.
9:49 to go in the third with a timeout.
The punt goes off the back of one of their players and AU starts on the Aggie 47.
KJ loses one.
There is another deep completion  to Slayton to the Aggie two.
Kerryon Johnson lowers his head from the two for the score.

Auburn 35  TAMU 13

At the moment Auburn has taken over this game.
Seven straight three and outs and our offense has come alive.
TAMU hits a slant route for a long TD pass with 6:09 to go in the third.
It's not over yet as I knew it wouldn't be.
It looked like our defense wasn't lined up quite right on that play.

Auburn 35  TAMU 20

AU begins at the 17.
The Tigers drive to a 52 yard field goal attempt but the kick is blocked and TAMU starts at the AU 46.
This game is far from over.
Their possession to a third and 5.
First down to the AU 31.
This game is far from over.
First down to the 12.
After Auburn scores 28 straight TAMU has come back and we have a ballgame going into to the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER

The final stanza starts with the Aggies first and 10 on our 12.
It's time for some Auburn heroics.
Kyle Field must be rocking.
TAMU moves to 4 and 2 from the four.
Closer to three than two.
Incomplete pass!  Our defense holds.  TAMU goes for it rather than kick the easy FG.
First down Auburn from their four.
The Tigers drive 96 yards for the touchdown in one of the great Auburn drives that I have seen.
THAT was a championship drive to hopefully ice this game.
KJ did most of the legwork running determinedly and making a one-handed catch on a third down.
Stove sweeps right end on third and goal from the four for the score.
What drive!!!
13 plays 8:17 off the clock.  96 yards.

Auburn 42  TAMU 20

The kick is returned to inside our 40.  Our kick-off coverage needs some work.  We are so used to touchbacks we seem unprepared for returns.
The Aggies move to a first and 10 from the eleven. thanks to an unfortunate interference call on Davis.  Bad call.
On 4th TAMU gets the passing touchdown with 3:11 to go.
After the KO return they only had 28 yards to go.

Auburn 42  TAMU 27

We've too many special teams plays in this game.  Here comes the onside kick.  Auburn catches the pooch kick.  Our ball.
AU starts on the TAMU 49.
8 yard KJ run on first down.
Third and two.
First down on the KJ wildcat.
The Tigers run the clock out.
Big win!  Big, big win!
Now it's on possible glory.

FINAL SCORE

Auburn 42  TAMU 27

November

"November is here. Redemption is here. How you are remembered is here. Will you be an all-time great, an Auburn legacy, a team that dethroned their greatest rivals? Or will mediocrity reign? As unfair as it may be, there’s really very little ground in between."
- Rob Pate

Spread

I'm surprised we are a 15 point favorite on the road at Texas A&M.  Vegas must not think much of the Aggies.  I would have expected being a touchdown or less favorite.  I hope Vegas is right.

After Arkansas

The Tigers will come off a week to play in College Station.  Auburn is something like a 15 point favorite.  The season is in front of this team.  Win out and the Tigers will play in Atlanta.  Despite two losses they could be in the 4 team playoff after winning in Atlanta.  I don't expect it, but it's all there in front of this team.

2017 The Arkansas Game

This is a big game.  It may be the biggest game of Coach Malzhan's life.  Auburn desperately needs to win this game.  After the disappointing LSU loss the Tigers are 5 and 2 and a good season can still happen.  But we must beat the Razorbacks.  AU is something like a 13 point favorite in Fayetteville with a 6:30 kickoff on the SEC Network.

FIRST QUARTER

Auburn wins the toss and defers.
Carlson surprisingly kicks out of bounds on his kickoff.
The Hogs go three and out.
Stephen Roberts fair catches.  There was contact.  The ball goes back thru the end zone and it's a touchback given there was no possession of the ball.  It looked like interference from Arkansas but this was not called.
From their 20 the Tigers march down the field mixing the run and pass like they should.
On third and 12 Darius Slayton takes the short pass and runs 51 yards to the 15.
Next play Stidham keeps around left end and the Tigers score quickly on their first possession.

Auburn 7  Arkansas 0

Arkansas responds with a drive of their own moving right down the field quickly first down to the AU 23.  They have a big QB who is not very fleet afoot but he is physical.
The drive ends with a 34 yd. field goal.  Okay.  Better than giving up the 7.
We are stuffing their running attempts but they are completing passes.  We need to get more pressure on their quarterback.

Auburn 7  Arkansas 3

Our offense keeps running temp as we cross midfield.
First down AU to the Arkansas 34.
First down to the 19.
First down to the 8 with rugged running between the tackles.
First down and Slayton should caught the ball in the end zone.
KJ loses back to the 16.
Third and goal from the 16,
KJ takes a short pass and is pushed out of bounds at the 4.
Carlson makes the FG.
First and goal from the 8 and we have to settle for the 3.

Auburn 10  Arkansas 3

I hope these field goals instead touchdowns don't doom us.
We need to get more pressure on their quarterback and continue to stuff their running game.
That was a nice, long drive.  Hopefully the long possession will pay dividends.
It's a breezy night in Fayetteville as rain is expected later.
The Hogs are passing their way down the field again.
They cross midfield.
The quarter ends with Arkansas driving having just crossed midfield.
So far it looks we will have a ballgame.

SECOND QUARTER

We will have to keep scoring to win this game.
If our offense swoons like last week we will lose.
Ronnie says 9 passes and 12 rushes so far meaning very balanced which must continue.
Their QB Cole Kelley is very capable.
Arkansas first down at the AU 37.
Come on, defense!
Big sack back to the Auburn 45 but holding against Arkansas is accepted.
Back to the AU 45 goes the line of scrimmage.
Arkansas stalls there and we get a big stop.
On this series we are finally getting pressure on their QB.
Stephen Roberts fair catches at the 11.
On the second play Eli Stove rambles around left end to the Arkansas 40.
There is a pass to Nate Craig-Myers to the eleven.
Auburn to the 7.  Auburn can get a first down.
Stidham to the three.
KJ to inside the one and a first down.
As the Tigers get ready to snap the ball on a first down call inside the one there is a review called.  That's a long delay on the review call as Auburn was getting ready to snap the ball.
The review is long and that's not good.  The call on the field was first down.
The first down call is reversed on a bad, bad review.  Our announcers disagree on the call.
On 4th down KJ leaps but is ruled short on the measurement.
We were cheated on the review of the first down call on the field but still on a 4th down and host we needed to make it anyway.  Very unfortunate.  Now we have them backed up at their one at least.  Maybe justice will even out in this game.
Army goes and three and out and they are punting from their 10.
A short punt puts AU at the Arkansas 41 leading 10 to 3.
On third down Arkansas intercepts and their start on their 38.
That's an unfortunate turn of events as we cannot take advantage of good field position.
The Hogs go three and out.  Our defense is doing its job.
On the punt Roberts fair catches at the 17.  We surrender field position as a result of that interception.
So far I'm nervous because we had to settle for a 3 when it should have been 7, we got stymied on their one yard line, and Stidham threw the interception from their 41.
The Tigers go three and out and we are punting from the 22 against the wind.
We are seeing typical Auburn offense as it bogs down after the initial touchdown.
BUT NOW Arkansas fumbles the punt and we start on their 41.
Gotta take advantage of this turnover.
Fist down to the 30.
First down to the 11.
KJ runs to the 6.
KJ to the 2.
KJ into the end zone running around right end from the two.
That's the way to do it!  Auburn takes advantage of the turnover.

Auburn 17  Arkansas 3

First play Arkansas gets a big run all the way to the Auburn 35.  We don't need this.
We get a 6 yard sack on first down but we accept a 10 yard holding penalty.
Another good run to the 29.  Arkansas is pushing our defense around on this possession the clock under 2 minutes.
First down at the AU 25.
Motion penalty on Arkansas pushes first down back to the 30 with 1:19 remaining.
First down pass incomplete.
Arkansas moves to third and 7 at the 22 and a timeout with 59 seconds left.
Auburn holds pushing Arkansas to a field goal attempt.
The 38 yard attempt is good.

Auburn 17  Arkansas 6

Touchback and Auburn lets the clock run out and takes a lead to the half.
We have to keep scoring to win this game.
If Arkansas gets momentum in the second half like LSU did last week we will lose this game.
The Tigers receive to start the half drive right down the field for the score.
This is a statement drive.
Kamryn Pettway starts the half and he runs like the Pettway of old.
All of a sudden Pettway has fresh legs.
Stidham has a big scramble for a first down.
That was a 75 yard drive mostl on the ground with only a couple of short passes.
Pettway powers in from the two for the score.
This is exactly the way we wanted the start the second half.

Auburn 24  Arkansas 6

Arkansas comes out running with a heavy set.
First down just across the 35.
From there the Hogs go backwards to their 27.
Auburn assumes possession on their 30.
First down Auburn pass completion to Slayton to the Arkansas 37.
First play from there Pettway takes it to the house!
Man oh man!  Kamryn Pettway is looking awesome.  All of a sudden we see the Pettway of old.
4 plays.  70 yards.  AU takes a lead.

Auburn 31  Arkansas 6

7:33 to go in the third.
Arkansas comes out running and moves to the AU 39.
On third and 7 we sack the QB, he fumbles, and Auburn recovers at the 38.
First play wow!  Ryan Davis to Darius Slayton on a corner route for 62 yards for the touchdown.
Auburn has put a foot into the throat of Arkansas.  Yes, yes, yes!
Davis threw that ball on run, a beautiful pass.
That was some kind of well-executed

Auburn 38  Arkansas 6

Arkansas runs the kickoff for the touchdown.  A special teams breakdown.  We definitely didn't need that.

Auburn 38  Arkansas 13

For the second straight week we give up a big play on special teams play.
This time Carlson only kicked to the goal line.
A block in the back was not called by the way.
From the 25 a first down to the 39.
But that's it and Auburn is punting from the 39.
1:49 left in the third.
The punt rolls dead at the Razorback 28.
We can't let up.
First play their QB goes down and Auburn has the football!!!
Auburn is on the Arkansas 23 as Jeff Holland literally takes the ball away from their quarterback.
Bruiser Pettway goes to work.
Two plays and first down to the 11 as the quarter winds down.
Next play Pettway bounces to the outside and takes it in.  Al 11 yard TD run.
Pettway is having himself some kind of second half.

Auburn 45  Arkansas 13

It is exhilarating to see Auburn putting a beating on Arkansas in Reynolds-Razorback Stadium.
Kamryn Pettway shows what he can do when he's healthy.
The quarter ends with Arkansas at their 40 with a second and 6.
The Tigers score 28 points in the third quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

Arkansas moves to a completed pass and a first down to the AU 46.
Arkansas is punting on 4th and 12 from there.
The punt goes into the end zone.
12:38 to go.
Malik Willis is in the game.
Willis runs to the Arkansas 32 on the first play down the left side.  He has got some speed!
Devan Barret comes in and on his first carry he is hobbling.
But Darius James is also down on the field.  What is he doing in the game?
They have to bring the cart out for James.  That's sad.
Malik Willis runs to a first down to the 10.
Barrett runs to the four.
Barrett scores on the next play on a flip forward that counts as Willis's first touchdown pass.

Auburn 52  Arkansas 13

9:44 to go.
It has been an almost perfect night for the Tigers.
Arkansas drives and it looks like they might keep going to the end zone,  but there is another sack and a recovered fumble by Auburn.
The play is reviewed and the officials let Arkansas keep the ball ruling the QB was down before he lost the ball.  Still a big loss.  Still a sack.
4th down and 12 at the AU 35.
First down pass to the 19.
First down to the 7 on a run.
Under 5 minutes to go.
Second down at the 5.
Third down at the 2.
Score from there.  Okay.  Wish we could have held them with all fresh troops out there.
That's their first offensive touchdown of the game.

Auburn 52  Arkansas 20

3:07 left as Arkansas kicks off.
Auburn has the ball after the touchback.
Malik Miller is running the ball.
Two straight carries for a first down.
The game ends with Malik Miller carrying the ball but he fumbles on his last carry and Arkansas recovers with 6 seconds left.
The game ends with an Arkansas pass completion.

Great win!  I like beating Arkansas.  I like beating Arkansas very much.

After LSU

The LSU was one of the most disappointing losses that I can remember.  Auburn should have won this game.  Auburn is better than LSU.  This was one of the less impressive LSU teams that I can remember. Auburn leads 20 to 0 in the FIRST quarter and cannot hold the advantage.  The team died in the second half.  All of the attention is directed by the conservative play calling in the second half. The play calling was baffling to be sure.  The Tiger are a double digit favorite at Arkansas Saturday might.  It's a must win.

Saturday, October 14, 2017

From Phillip Marshall

"Auburn has had a lot of disappointing days at Tiger Stadium, but this one stands alone. It shouldn’t have happened. But it did."

As Phillip says in his article after the game, trouble is ahead for Malzahn. He must win out to have any chance of calming the wolves. That is unlikely. The only question remaining is whether Malzahn gets a sixth season.

2017 The LSU Game

Here we go again in this historic series.  I say historic series bearing in mind that there was a time in the old SEC days when these two schools seldom played.  When things changed starting in 1992 LSU and Auburn started playing every year and have so ever since.  When Terry Bowden's bunch won in Baton Rouge in 1993 it was the first time we had won there in 53 years.  Mostly it was because the two institutions seldom played each other.  Now the Tigers are hoping to win at so-called Death Valley for the first time since the Tommy Tuberville days of 1999.  Auburn is a 6 or 7 point favorite.  LSU lost shockingly at home to Troy but bounced back last week to win in Gainesville 17 to 16.  Strange things can happen in this game.  What will happen today?

FIRST QUARTER

The Tigers get off to a rip-roaring fast start.
We receive and drive to a 47 yard FG.
Next two possession two touchdowns.
The second comes after a long screen pass completion to Ryan Davis to the LSU 5.
Kerryon Johnson powers in from there.

Auburn 17  LSU 0

Still in the first quarter Auburn has the ball back again.
From their 23 KJ runs to a first down to the 36.
The quarter ends with the Tigers facing third and 9 from their 37.
Great first quarter!
We can't let up.

SECOND QUARTER

There's a beautiful first down completion to Darius Slayton.
KJ running like a man on fire.
First down run to the LSU 20.
A couple of five yard penalties and we move back to a third and 22.
A timeout or else there would have another penalty.
A little sloppy here.
It would be a long FG attempt if we don't convert.
We can't convert and move to a long FG attempt.
The 48 attempt is good!  Carlson is money in the bank.
Auburn extends the lead.

Auburn 20  LSU 0

LSU starts backed up after a block in the back but there is a good run to the 23 on the first play.
Next play a huge 70 yard run to the AU 8 on the jet sweep.
LSU was successful last week vs. Florida on that jet sweep.
LSU is at the one yard line third down.
After an AU offsides our defense stops them up the middle.
The score comes around right end on 4th down as we miss a tackle.
We stop them running between the tackles.
All LSU has is jet sweeps but it's good enough on this drive.

Auburn 20  LSU 7

LSU gets a 70 yard gain on a jet sweep and have to resort to a jet sweep on the one to score.
The Tigers go three and out.
I was hoping our offense would respond but we are punting for the first time.
LSU will start at their 29 after the punt.
LSU does a lot of shifting on offense before the snap.
LSU goes three and out.
Stephen Roberts fair catches at the Tiger 30 with 6:21 left.
KJ runs for 9 to the 39.
KJ runs to the 49 for the first down.
KJ to the LSU 47.
Pass completion to the LSU 32 to Ryan Davis!
The Tigers move to a first down to the 10.
Stove to the 8 on the sweep.
KJ stopped on the wildcat.
We are not getting on the wildcat between the tackles.
Incomplete pass to Slayton on third down.
Carlson makes the FG.
That's three field goals for the day.
The offense is looking good BUT we can't keep settling for threes.

Auburn 23  LSU 7

2:16 to go as LSU assumes possession.
LSU gets a big pass on first down as our defender went for the interception instead of the tackle.
A 6 yard hitch turns into a 40 yard gain.
LSU is on our 38.
First down to the 27.
Almost an interception but ruled correctly incomplete.
First down LSU to the 14 with less than a minute to go.
Tray Matthews is out with a hamstring issue.
Touchdown LSU and is they back in the game.

Auburn 23  LSU 14

Well, this is Auburn and LSU, isn't it?
Crazy things always seem to happen in this series.
Carlton Davis took a chance on that long gain and it cost us.
Then we almost had the interception.
A game of inches indeed.
The half ends.
We had LSU 20 to 0 but now it's 23 to 14 and they get the ball coming out.
Bogging down in the red zone and having to settle for three field goals hasn't helped.
We have lost the momentum as the first half ends.

THIRD QUARTER

LSU receives to start the half and drives across but then punts to our 10.
Here comes our first possession of the second half.
After one first down we punt to their 25.
Our defense has stalled after a great start.
Pettway has been in the game.  Why, I don't know because it is obvious he is not near 100%.
This game will be a nail-biter before it's over.
This will be another crazy Auburn-LSU game.
LSU quickly goes three and out.
Defense looks good on that series.
AU starts at their 30 with 4:31 to go in the quarter.
The Tigers go three and out.
The offense goes three and out for the second straight time in this quarter.
This has to change if we are going to win this game.
LSU starts at their 24 with 3:06 to go.
This game is scary because the longer we leave LSU in this game the more likely we will lose.
LSU gets a back shoulder completion to midfield.  Tray Matthews is out of the game.
The drive stops there at the AU 49.
The punt goes into the end zone with 58 seconds to go in the quarter.
From the 20 KJ runs between the tackles for three to the 23.
KJ go the 25.
The offense playing conservative as the quarter ends.
A scoreless third quarter.
Very scary.
23 to 14.

FOURTH QUARTER

i almost dread the fourth quarter of this game.
It's Auburn and LSU.  What crazy things are going to happen???
Well, my question is answered on the first play of the quarter.
LSU runs our punt back for the distance.
A possible block in the back against Stove is not called.
Something like this was bound to happen.
At least it happened early the quarter.
Yikes!

Auburn 23  LSU 21

Our offense has been comatose in the second half.
If our offense doesn't show up now we will lose a game we once led 20 to 0.
Our offense has to be aggressive again.
From the 25 KJ runs to the 29.
KJ runs close to the first down.
Third and short.
Stove runs for the first down around left end.
From the AU 41.
KJ to the 45.
The offense is still very conservative.
KJ runs to the 50 a yard short of the first down.
No gain.  Still a yard short.
From midfield we choose to punt.
If we lose this game this will be a determining play.
Short 24 punt.  LSU only needs a field goal to take the lead.
This has turned into the hairy game I expected all along with these two teams and their history.
The pressure is on as LSU gets a big special team score and our offense is dead.
LSU quickly moves to their 42 behind their good RB Guise.
But there is a grounding call against LSU with loss of down.
LSU moves to third and 15.
The clock ticks toward 9 minutes.
There is a long completion to the Auburn 33 for a huge gain.  Better execution than our defense.
Their QB is sacked.
The possession moves to 4th and 12 and LSU is punting.  Somehow our defense holds.
The punt dies at the Auburn three with a little over 7 minutes to go.
The defense holds but we are backed up to our end line.  OH, my!
A yard loss.  An incompletion.  Delay of game.  Big trouble.
Stidham runs out of bounds at the four.
LSU should have great field position only needing a field goal to take the lead.
LSU starts at the Auburn 45 with 6:40 to go.  OH, my!
This game is almost unbearable.
It will take something special to keep LSU from scoring again.
Our defense has tried to carry this team in the second half by necessity.
Can they hold out?
The possession moves to 4th an inches from the 25 with 2:41 left.
LSU will attempt the 42 yard field goal.
The kick is good and LSU takes the lead.
With 2:36 to go AU will have one more possession with three timeouts left.

Auburn 23  LSU 24

Can our offense respond after showing nothing in the second half?
This is a championship moment for the Auburn Tigers.
It's long a long shot for sure.
No gain on the first play from the 25.
LSU has evidently make correct defensive adjustments.
A dropped pass on second down.  Should have been caught.
Another dropped pass. That's TWO straight dropped passes.
4th and 10 after two dropped passes.
It comes down to this.
Dropped passes have doomed us.
4th down pass incomplete and that's it.
LSU will win this game.

LSU gets another field goal.

Auburn 23  LSU 27

LSU comes back from a 20 to 0 deficit to win this game.
Not a good three quarters for Auburn.  A dominant first quarter leads to a three quarter collapse.
We got the quick start we needed but it was all for naught.
LSU is not as good as Auburn but we lose.
It hurts most to lose to a team you know you should have beaten.
LSU made the adjustments and wanted it more as our offense went into a tank.
A top ten team does not lose this game.  So be it.
LSU is NOT as good as Auburn but they win this game.

Auburn gets one last possession with 38 seconds to go.
75 yards needed for a touchdown.
But as Pat Dye says, there are no miracles on the football field.
The last Auburn snap comes with 7 seconds left from our 36.
Stidham is sacked with 2 seconds to go.
Big comeback for LSU and a disappointing  collapse for Auburn.
20 points in the first quarter and only 3 the rest of the way.
"A complete collapse," says Stan White.
This is NOT a good LSU team.  The offense became one-dimensional.  We had dropped passes.  Whatever on offense.  The defense held out as long it could.  One again we lose in Baton Rouge.

After Ole Miss

Auburn heads to Baton Rouge where we haven't won since 1999.  This is the year if ever there will be a year.  Auburn will be favored by something like 6.5 points.  LSU beat Florida 17 to 16 after getting embarrassed at home to Troy.  This team is 5 and 1.  It's all there in front of this team.

2017 The Ole Miss Game

Can the Tigers keep it going after righting the ship at least to a certain extent as we face a beatable Ole Miss team that is reeling?  At Jordan-Hare kickoff is at 11 on the SEC network.  The Tigers are favored by 21/22.

FIRST QUARTER

Ole Miss receives and makes a pretty good drive but the 43 yard field goal attempt is no good.
The Tigers drive for the touchdown in response on a run-dominated drive.  Only one short pass.
Kerryon Johnson runs around 17 yards for the score.
10 plays 74 yards.

Auburn 7  Ole Miss 0

Ole Miss drives again quickly moving to the AU 21.
Ole Miss drives to the Auburn 10.
The FG attempt is good.

Auburn 7  Ole Miss 3

FIRST PLAY A SHORT PASS TO RYAN DAVIS AND HE RAMBLES DOWN THE FIELD  USING HIS BLOCKING EFFECTIVELY FOR 75 YARDS AND THE SCORE.  GREAT OPEN FIELD RUN BY DAVIS!  That didn't take long.

Auburn 14  Ole Miss 3

This time it's three and out for the Rebels.  Ole Miss has had ALL of their success thru the air.  They cannot run the ball.
The Tigers drive again mostly chewing up yards on the ground but with pinpoint passing by Stidham.
The quarter ends with AU at the Ole Miss 20 third and about seven.

SECOND QUARTER

Third and 7 and there's a TD pass to Darius Slayton in the right corner of the end zone!  One play into the second quarter and Auburn scores again.  We have a sold ground game and a dangerous hard to defend passing game.  The offense is having a complete game so far early in this game.

Auburn 21  Ole Miss 3

The Rebs are three and out.  Keep it up defense.
On the kickoff Stephen Roberts is clearly targeted and a Rebel player is done for the day.
Kerryon Johnson runs 48 yards up the middle almost untouched for the touchdown.  Our offense is making it look easy.

Auburn 28  Ole Miss 3

Ole Miss mounts a drive.
The Rebels advance to the AU 29.
4th and 6 from the 29.
The pass is completed but short of the first down.  The defense holds.
They've had some success with quick passes but not much running.
The Tigers drive almost effortlessly again for the score.   6 plays 74 yards.
Kerryon Johnson almost walks in from the five around the right side.

Auburn 35  Ole Miss 3

The Rebs drive to midfield.  They have moved the ball some but only have 3 points with under 4 minutes to go in the first half.
Midfield does it as OM punts on 4th and 7.
From their 10 the Tigers move quickly downfield.
The Tigers are trying to score again before the half ends.
The drive stalls for the first time and AU punts to the end zone with 1:02 left.
With 31 seconds left Ole Miss punts.  AU takes the ball at their 22.  The half ends.
Big half for the Auburn Tigers.

THIRD QUARTER

Auburn gets a 70 yard KO return to the Ole Miss 30 by Noah I but then we have three bad plays and Carlson has to kick the long FG.

Auburn 38  Ole Miss 3

Ole Miss drives to the Auburn 24.
Ole Miss advances to a first and goal to the 9.
Screen pass left touchdown.
Not our best defense of the game or season.

Auburn 38  Ole Miss 10

Auburn goes three and out.  After the Ole Miss score we are punting.  I do not like this.
OM takes over at their 34.
The Rebels go three and out.
Not their best offense of the game.  Very timely for us.
Auburn starts back at their 15.
The Tigers mount a drive pushing to the Rebel 39 as Mike Horton lies on the ground and a timeout.
First down Auburn behind KJ to the 13.
Alas, we have to kick the field goal.  Our last two scores have only been 3's.

Auburn 41  Ole Miss 10

The Rebels can't cross midfield and punt to the AU 19.
Stove jet sweeps for eleven yards.
A holding call moves up back.
Facing third and 19 the third quarter ends.

FOURTH QUARTER

4th and 19 and Auburn is punting but they run into our punter.
The penalty is declined and OM starts at their 37.
OM moves to the Auburn 34.
OM is at the Auburn 8.
From there touchdown quickly by Ole Miss.  Not good.
The second half has not been good for Auburn.  Still early in the fourth quarter.  OM has not wilted.
Our energy level has been lacking.

Auburn 41  Ole Miss 17

We don't need to end this game playing this badly in the second half.  We've been outscored 14 to 6 in the second half.
We need to get at least one more score.
The Tigers move out to near midfield.
The Tigers move to the OM 25 behind Stove's speed sweep.
The drive stalls to a 35-yd. Carlson field goal.  Better than nothing.

Auburn 44  Ole Miss 17

With under 3 minutes to go OM scores again as our subs give ground.  The failed to convert the two point attempt.

Auburn 44  Ole Miss 23

Auburn recovers the onside kick at the Ole Miss 48.
Let's run our offense.
A run to the 44 behind Malik Miller.
I'd like to score again.
A run just short of the first down.
First down to the Rebel 35.
I'd like see Malik Miller break one.
No gain for Miller and that's the game.

A dominating first half and a so-so less than energetic second half but a comfortable win.
About 560 total yards of offense.
Now it's on the Baton Rouge where we will try to win for the first time since 1999.
This needs to be the year to break that streak.

FINAL SCORE

Auburn 44  Ole Miss 23

After Mississippi State

The only question now is can the Tigers keep it going?  Four and one.  The season is here for Auburn to claim it.

Saturday, September 30, 2017

2017 The Mississippi State Game

It's Mississippi State Bulldog Dan Mullen time again.  No love lost between Auburn and Mississippi State.  This is a set-up game for Auburn.  A win here could spur the rest of the reason. A loss will certainly put a quick damper on things after last week's blowout of Missouri. The game is at Jordan-Hare kicking off at 5 on ESPN.  Auburn is something like an 8-point favorite.

FIRST QUARTER

Auburn receives and drives quickly 75 yards in 7 plays in three minutes for the score.  After one first down Kerryon Johnson runs 60 yards inside their 10.  You can tell that KJ is still not full speed or else he would have scored.   No matter.  On 4th down from the one foot line Johnson goes in for the score.

Auburn 7  MSU 0

State goes three and out but Stidham fumbles and MSU gets the ball on our 32.  Our defense holds and they make a 40 yard FG.

Auburn 7  MSU 3

The Tigers drive quickly for another touchdown.  The big play is a long pass on a sweep handoff, the ball going back to Stidham, who completes the long pass to Davis.
The TD comes on a pass from the 7 to Ryan Davis.

Auburn 14  MSU 3

Our defense forces another punt, but we end up punting back to them at their 14.

SECOND QUARTR

State goes three and out from their 14 which includes backing up 5 yards for procedure.
After the punt Auburn sets up at the Bulldog 47.
FIRST PLAY STIDHAM HITS A WIDE WIDE-OPEN WILL HASTINGS ON THE POST!
WOW!  One play is all it took.

Auburn 21  MSU 3

From their 25 State once again goes three and punt BUT THEY FAKE THE PUNT AND OUR DEFENSE TAKES DOWN THE PUNTER AND AU TAKES OVER ON THEIR 33.
Alas, three plays later we are still at the 33.
On the 51-yard FG attempt the ball hits the left upright.  Big chance missed.  Doggone it!
So far in this game our between the tackles running is not there.  We've hit big plays though.
After one first down the Bulldogs are punting from their 47.
Stephen Roberts fair-catches at the 13.
After one first down Auburn is punting on 4th and the length of the football.
Good punt to the MSU 23 with less than 5 minutes to go in the half.
State gets a big pass completion on first down to the Auburn 32.
There is another first down completion to the Auburn 21.
Loss of one.  Second and 11.
Third and 6 for State.
Their QB runs it in from there for the score and a good scramble.  Their QB fumbles into the end zone but after the ball crosses the line.
The play is reviewed and the player ruled down at the one foot line.
First and goal from inside the one and their QB is stopped on the first play.
Second and goal.
False start!
Backs them up five to close to the 6.
We stuff their running back at the hole at the line of scrimmage.  Big time hit there.
Third and goal but there's a touchdown pass back to the left to a wide-open receiver.

Auburn 21  MSU 10

59 seconds left and State gets the ball first in the second half.
The Tigers are conservative and the clock expires.

THIRD QUARTER

MSU receives with momentum after their late second quarter touchdown.
After one first down MSU punts to just outside our chalk line.
First play from inside the one Auburn gets the big pass play to Eli Stove flipping the field.
KJ runs it in from the two.
THAT'S A 99 YARD DRIVE!  Longest scoring drive in AU history.  3:20.  You can't get longer than that.
Just what we needed.
Let me tell you one thing.  Coach Malzahn would NEVER have thrown the ball from the end zone.  Thank goodness for Chip Lindsey!

Auburn 28  MSU 10

On their first series from the 25 Tray Matthews intercepts at the AU 49.
First play Devan Barrett runs for 10 yards and a first down.
Alas, we are punting from the 37.
MSU fair-catches at their 10.
The Bulldogs start a drive.  Gotta stop 'em.
They cross midfield.
The Bulldogs are at our 34.  Their offense is in rhythm on this drive.
State goes to 4th and 10 from the 34.
There is a false start on Mississippi State.  That makes SEVEN false starts on the Bulldogs.
Incomplete pass at the stick!  Our defense holds.
First down Auburn at our 39.
Oh, no!  Kamryn Pettway fumbles and State recovers at the Auburn 43.
We sack their QB Fitzgerald.  Jeff Holland rips down Fitzgerald coming around the edge.
The quarter ends.

FOURTH QUARTER

We have the lead but have missed chances to put this game away.  We missed the long FG.  We stopped their fake punt but nothing came of it.  And there we turn the ball over on our side of the field.  Despite some big plays, our running game is not there.
Our defense holds on fourth down.  Auburn ball on our 39.
With 7 defenders at the line of scrimmage Stidham hits Kyle Davis on a beautiful pass to the two.
Kerryon Johnson leaps for the touchdown!!!
Maybe this is the dagger that will kill Mullen's Bulldogs.
With Chip Lindsay we get the long pass completion with MSU stacking the box.  I doubt this would happen with Malzahn calling the plays.

Auburn 35  MSU 10

12:03 to go.
We are winning this game so far because of 264 yards of passing from Jarrett Stidham.
On a tipped pass Javaris Davis returns the interception 37 yards for the touchdown!!!
10:42 to go.
Game, set, match!  Here's to you, Dan Mullen!!!

Auburn 42  MSU 10

The Bullies drive to the AU 15.
We do have a lot of fresh uniforms in the game but I would like to stop these guys anyway.
On 4th and 7 from the 12 the pass into the end zone is tipped and tipped and falls incomplete.  Yes!
First place from the 12 Malik Miller runs to the 24.
Malik Miller looks better than Kam Pettway.
(Stidham is 13 for 16 for 264 years)
Malik Willis playing this last series.
(We've had 12 pass breakups on defense)
Malik Willis runs 67 yards down the right sideline for the touchdown on the keeper!!
More icing on the cake.  Take that also, Dan Mullen!!!
That's our QB of the future.  Malik Willis has some wheels!

Auburn 49  MSU 10

Bury the Bulldogs!  Bury them good.

3:04 left.  Let's enjoy it.
With 2:02 left State is at midfield.
State pushes to the AU 39 as the clock winding down to a minute.
State has a first down at the 29 with the clock under 30 seconds.
16 seconds to go State at our 29.
We sack their QB as the clock expires.
A great win.  Ole Miss is next.  Let's complete the Mississippi sweep next week.
Not much negative you can say about this one.  This team is getting better.
