Ted Williams

I watched a PBS documentary about Ted Williams.  A few interesting facts:
  • Remarkably, Ted hit .388 in 1957, when he was thirty-nine years old.
  • In his Hall of Fame speech in 1966, he hoped that black players like Satchel Paige would get the recognition they deserved.  He was on the correct side of civil rights.  His maternal Mexican heritage helps explain this.
  • He was an avid fisherman.  He was inducted into the International Game Fish Association's Fishing Hall of Fame in 2000.  As such, he's one of only three athletes to be inducted into two professional halls of fame (the others are Jim Brown and Carl Hubbard).
