28 TO 27 - A Recap

Auburn 28
Alabama 27
Final

–FIRST QUARTER–
ALABAMA TOUCHDOWN @ 11:34 — Mark Ingram 10 run. PAT kick good. Driver covered 71 yards in 7 plays, 3:26. Easy. Alabama had plenty of pre-snap motion, which is unusual for them. Big play was a 12-yard reverse run for Julio Jones, which Antoine Carter sniffed out behind the line of scrimmage. He missed the tackle. Jones was off and away.

ALABAMA TOUCHDOWN @ 8:39 — Julio Jones 69 pass from Greg McElroy. PAT kick good. Drive covers 81 yards in 2 plays. Mike McNeil, at safety, neglected his responsibility and let Jones fly away without oversight. Simple play.

ALABAMA TOUCHDOWN @ 1:58 — Darius Hanks 12 pass from McElroy. The drive was ended with a sack by Nick Fairley, then he inexplicably draws an excessive celebration penalty. He did nothing unusual. So that turns a 4th-and-19 into a 4th-and-4 that Alabama converts. Wow.

–SECOND QUARTER–
ALABAMA FIELD GOAL @ 8:01 — 20 FG. Drive covered 50 yards in 7 plays. Auburn actually held on a third down there, so that’s progress.

AUBURN TOUCHDOWN @ 5:08 — Emory Blake 36 pass from Cam Newton. PAT kick good. Drive covers 80 yards in 9 plays. Kodi Burns, of all people, catches a pair of touch passes to convert third downs. Who knew?

–THIRD QUARTER–
AUBURN TOUCHDOWN @ 14:04 — Terrell Zachery 70 pass from Newton. PAT kick good. Drive covers 69 yards in 2 plays.

AUBURN TOUCHDOWN @ 4:25 — Cam Newton 1 run. PAT kick good. 75 yards in 8 plays, 3:14. Auburn never faced a third-down conversion there. Auburn is running to the weak side far more often than expected right now.

ALABAMA FIELD GOAL @ 1:05 — 33 FG. Drive covered 12 yards in 5 plays. Quindarius Carr’s fumbled punt gave Alabama prime field position. You have to consider that a major defensive stand right there.

–FOURTH QUARTER–
AUBURN TOUCHDOWN @ 11:55 — Philip Lutzenkirchen 7 pass from Newton. PAT kick good.
