La. Tech 2014

I have never liked games like this, games that we are supposed to win handily.  The Tigers are a 33 point favorite on Homecoming.  Traditionally we slop around on Homecoming.  I expect some of the same today.  If we beat the spread it will because of a late scoring spurt.  Kickoff is at 3 on the SEC Network.  We need to sharpen up in this game to get ready for that brutal SEC stretch coming up.

FIRST QUARTER

The Tigers receive and are three and out.  Not so good.
La. Tech starts on their 28.
The visitors are three and out.
AU has the ball back on the 24.  Back where we started.
The Tigers are three and out again.  Our offense is not into the game yet.  What is the deal?
The Bulldogs get the back back quickly.
This cannot continue, but it is Homecoming and I have seen this so many times before
On third and 6 Montravious Adams intercepts and rumbles down to the five!
Our DLs are getting their hands up.
Kris Frost knocked the ball up into the air for Adams.
CAP runs it in on the first play around the right side.

Auburn 7  LAT 0

Maybe this will get our offense going.
After one first down the Bulldogs are punting.
Bray fair catches at the 15 or 16.
The Tigers march to a missed 41-yd. FG attempt.  The ball went right and never hooked back left.  Nick Marshall had a nice 31 yard run but for naught.  All of sudden we can't run between the tackles. LAT is selling out at the line and we have to make them pay but so far we haven't.
The Bulldogs are three and out.
Auburn takes up shop at the LAT 43 after a good runback by Bray.
The Tigers are three and out.  Our offense is not yet in this game.
LAT starts at the 17.
The quarter ends with LAT 2nd and 7 at their 20.

SECOND QUARTER

After our defense forces another three and out we start at the La Tech 46 and finally start running down the field but the drive bogs down and we have to settle for a 25 yd. FG.  We should have finished that drive in the end zone.  Our offense has had good field position.  The defense is looking great but the offense is so sluggish.

Auburn 10  LAT 0

The Bulldogs mount a 55 yard drive as our defense gives ground but they miss a 37 yard FG attempt wide right.  Are we lucky or what?  Until that drive our defense looked good.  Our defense did not look good on that possession.  So far Auburn has NOT looked sharp at all.
The Tigers march 80 yards in 12 plays the TD coming on a ONE-HANDED catch by Duke Williams on a tipped ball between two defenders.  That's one for Sports Center!  Most of the yards came on keepers by Nick Marshall.  The scoring pass was the only pass of the drive.

Auburn 17  LAT 0

LAT fumbles after a completed pass and we're in business at the Bulldogs 37.
Grant loses 6.  That doesn't help matters.  TO Auburn with 1:09 left in the half.
The score comes on a beautiful 37 yard strike and an over the shoulder grab by Quan Bray.  That was one of Nick Marshall's best throws.  All of a sudden I feel better about this game.  After a slow start the offense shows some life.

Auburn 24  LAT 0

After a good runback and a penalty and a complete pass LAT is at our 36 quickly.
There's a first down pass to the 16.
On the last play of the half LAT gets a 25 yard FG.
I don't like giving up that last drive by the Bulldogs but so far we have a comfortable lead.

Auburn 24  LAT 3

THIRD QUARTER

La Tech drives deep into Auburn territory but we finally push them back for a punt to the Auburn 6.  We go three and out and La Tech drives quickly again and we may have a ballgame with their QB going in from the one.  Five plays, 49 yards.

Auburn 24  LAT 10

This is not the start we wanted.  Both of our starting linebackers are out with some kind of injuries and our defense looks vulnerable all of a sudden.  Our offense goes three and out on our only possession midway thru the third quarter.  What gives?
From the 30 and we three and out again and have to punt on 4th and 13.
Our offense has not shown up yet in the second half.
LAT fair catches at their 24.
The Bulldogs have all the momentum.
If they score here we'd better wake up.
There's a stop: three and out with 3:59 to go in the quarter.
The punt pins us at the 8.
Where is our offense?
CAP runs to the 25.
Marshall for a couple.
First down pass completion to Coates at the 40.
A holding call on Williams negates another first down pass.
Rushing yards have been scarce between the tackles.
First down to the La Tech 48 as the quarter ends.

FOURTH QUARTER

On a spectacular play Marshall runs around in the back field and finally flings a 44 yard TD pass to Quan Bray in the end zone.  Bray goes up and makes a great catch!  We needed that.

Auburn 31  LAT 10

That was a big play in this football game.  Let's keep it up and finish strong.
The Bulldogs are three and out for the first time in the half.
QUAN BRAY RETURNS THE PUNT 76 YARDS FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!
He got north and south at the initial opening and nobody laid a hand on him.  That was pretty!

Auburn 38  LAT 10

On 4th and one LAT surprises our defense with a completion that takes the ball to the AU 16.
From the 11 on second down there's a sweep around left end and their back walks into the end zone.

Auburn 38  LAT 17

Well, this will be another one of those ugly type wins.  I know we've substituted a lot but I don't like this.
JJ is in at QB.  There is a pass to Duke Williams to the AU 42.  CAP runs for 37 yards.  The Tigers move to the LAT 15 third and 4.
Jeremy Johnson scrambles and then hits CJ Uzomah for the 15 yard TD pass. JJ leads the offense right down the field.

Auburn 45  LAT 17

Our receivers have made some great catches today.  6 plays 75 yards.
LAT punts from their 15.  We get the ball on our 44.
With 3:02 to go we fail on 4th and 3 and LAT gets the ball on their 37.
They punt and we get the ball at our 39 with 1:52 to go.
Peyton Barber gets a carry.  I think he will be bigger than Roc Thomas.
The game ends with Barber getting three straight carries.  I repeat: he is our future big back.
Some good things, some not so good things, and this team is still a work in progress but still a good win.

FINAL SCORE

Auburn 45  LAT 17
